Vicke Lindstrand

Vicke Lindstrand, 1904 – 1983, designer of glass and ceramics. He fist came to Orrefors glass factory in 1928 and made experiments with painted motives, popular in the 1930-ies, and with engraving on thick walled vases, with motives of divers and other marine figures. He developed the Ariel glass together with Edvin Öhrstrom inthe late 1930-ies.

Vicke Lindstrand was the artistic director of Uppsala-Ekeby ceramic factory 1942 – 50, and of Kosta glass factory 1950 – 73. In Kosta he used discarded lumps of clear glass, and of these he created ”icebergs” with deep engravings of arctic animals, e.g. polar bears.

Vicke Lindstrand did several monumental glass installations, the last was ”Legend in Glass” in Vaxjö, consisting of slices of 8 mm window sheet glass glued together. From 1977 he worked together with Hanna Dreutler and Arthur Zirnsack and the newly opened Åhus glass studio.

Vicke Lindstrand is represented at numerous museums in Sweden and internationally.
